Vehicles are probably my favourite thing to paint. I’m sometimes asked to paint modern vehicles, but mostly I’m painting vintage vehicles, to make them period correct.
I can paint a company’s logo and lettering onto a vehicle, like a food van or delivery van, but usually draw a design by hand if it’s a vehicle made before computers were used, to keep it correct. Examples of this would be vintage trucks, work vans and race cars.
Sometimes I’ll distress the lettering to match the age and wear of the vehicle. This can be achieved with a mixture of dry-brushing, paint additives, removing paint before it dries, scratching and sanding.
Vans are a common job, but also race cars, trucks and boats.
I recently painted a vintage racing power boat, which was all marked out and recreated using old photographs.
